What Is a CMS Website?

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, August 23, 2011

CMS stands for Content Management System. These systems are designed to allow people who aren't familiar with web design to operate a website easily, without worrying about all the complicated coding that typically goes into designing a great website.
Open source CMS programs are the most popular because they can be downloaded completely free and the most popular systems have tons of templates, extensions and themes that make them more functional.

One of the more popular content management systems being used right now is WordPress, often just called WP. This system is incredibly easy to use and there are thousands of themes from many different designers that are easily modified for different functional uses and aesthetic looks. Another popular system is Linux, though there are many designers who no longer see the value in that CMS.

What makes a CMS website different from a website designed from scratch by a professional designer is the ease of use. You don't have to know a lot of HTML code in order to operate a website designed with a CMS. There is a convenient "backend" where all of the administrative duties take place. The best CMS programs make this are very easy to use so anyone with basic knowledge of the system can maintain a website and keep it functional.

The "frontend" is the actual website viewed by visitors to the site. This is the end of the website you see when you search for a website and click to check a CMS website out. This is the product of all the work that goes on behind the scenes in the backend. The site administrator can create new content and plug it in at the backend so it is displayed on the frontend. It starts in the back but the final product is displayed in the front.

It is the actual process of putting that fresh content into the backend that makes a CMS website so much easier to operate for those who don't know a lot about website design. A good CMS will allow the administrator to add bold, italics and other design features to the content without actually playing with code. The backend is well designed so administrators with minimal web design experience can put in new content, add features, and keep the front end fresh and appealing without getting into the mess of coding.

A CMS website also makes life easier for web designers. They can create interesting, functional websites that their clients love in much less time than they would otherwise spend coding the website from scratch. Clients are often happier with websites built on a CMS because they can do more for themselves and aren't always paying a designer to do minor tweaks and fix problems they encounter. They enjoy being able to manage their website without the constant need to ask for a professional's help.

Many people do set up their own CMS websites by using pre-designed templates and themes on the more popular content systems, but it is always best to have a professional modify the design so it is more unique. Another reason to modify is to make sure it has all the functionality you need from your website. A professional can take a basic template or theme and turn it into a beautiful website that makes visitors want to hang around for awhile.

Flash Design Can Make a Website Look Appealing

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, August 21, 2011

In this busy world of ours, all of us have very little time. And this seems to be true on the Internet as well. In fact, on the Internet, most people seem to be in a great hurry.
According to estimates, you just have a couple of seconds to capture the attention of a visitor to your website and please him or her. If you cannot achieve this almost instantly, the person is going to go back to the search engine, and will probably never return to your website anymore. So, it is really important that you do something special on your website, so that the visitor is captivated, and is compelled to stay back. But what can you do? Flash design can be the answer.

There are just two things at the top of a website that captures the attention of a visitor. A compelling image and a Headline. Display an attractive image, and you can be sure that the visitor will stop for a moment and take a look. But, you can do better than this. Why not make a flash movie play on load, when the person visits the page? Of course, a movie, which is just a compilation of several images, will be far more attractive than just a single image. And since you can include several images in this movie, you can be sure that the impact will be much better. The person may stop, and watch the entire movie play. The images in the movie will give him/her an idea about your business, and the products or services you are offering.

But do ensure that the flash movie loads quickly. Because if it doesn't, you will probably lose the visitor. This is really very important. The flash design must take this into account. This is really very important. If you have an expert designer working for your project, you can be sure that the person can create an appealing flash intro design, and yet, make it load quickly.

There was a time when websites with flash fared poorly at the search engine ranking pages for popular keywords. This happened because the search engine robots could not crawl through the flash file in the coding. And so, the Internet marketers always used to advise their clients not to have these flash files. If the website had flash in the Home page, it was strongly advised to remove it. But those days are now long gone. Today, the robots are much smarter. They can efficiently read these files, and so, websites that have flash files in the Home page can achieve high search engine ranks too. Thus, there are absolutely no reasons for not wanting flash.

Select a professional company to get your flash presentation prepared expertly. Ask them for their experience, ask for a few sample websites that they have worked on, and take a closer look to form your own opinion. Ask for the cost and how long they will take to do the job. If you are happy with everything, you can proceed to place your order.

Using Flash Technology in Business Website to Attract Visitors

Posted by Unknown on Saturday, August 20, 2011

One of the most sought-after technologies in web development is Flash technology. This particular technology has brought a big change in the web world wherein attractive and impressive features have been introduced on the websites.

While considering the current scenario, websites are playing a major role in attracting and engaging the online visitors. Businesses are utilizing the power of their website to improve their potential to a great extent. Some businesses are also functioning virtual storefronts to help their target audience to make sale and purchase of their products and services.

Under such scenario, there is a need to make your website look different from others without compromising with the quality of content and other related factors. To give a competitive edge, Flash has been highly used in websites to give an element of interactivity to web pages. This has helped in engaging the target market to stay longer on the website as well as to entice them to return back for more information.

Many web development companies have started to offer flash development services wherein flash developers have capability to animate all contents like images, texts, illustrations etc of a website. The best part of using flash technology is that it doesn't require any software to be installed to run the website and doesn't take time in loading web pages. It has been noticed that a user spends more time over flash site in comparison to a HTML page for seeking information online.

The website owners have been using animation to grab attention of visitors by improving the graphic content. They are also combining audio, audio-video and 3D graphic features to create an interactive element for enticing the visitors online. Apart from animated and interactive features, you can also integrate sound within the website to engage the users for a longer time. This feature is very limited in other websites and can act as a feature to attract more visitors towards the website.

If you have plans to design a new site or redesign the existing site, you can take flash development services from a reliable web development company. With the growing demand, there are various companies that have established a full-fledged team to provide you quality solutions within a specific time period. You can do a quick search online to look for the best web development company that can help you to shortlist the best option for your company within your budget.

Norton Mobile Security protects your Android phone

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, August 16, 2011

The app, which comes in lite and premium versions, protects against malware, phishing, theft and spam.

Computerworld - Worried by the spate of news stories about malware targeting Android phones and tablets? There's a way to get some peace of mind: Symantec's just-released Norton Mobile Security, which promises the same type of security for Android devices that its big brother counterpart offers for PCs. (The app was previously available as a beta.)
Norton Mobile Security comes in free and for-pay versions. The free version (which Symantec labels Lite) includes an anti-malware module and an anti-theft module that lets you remotely lock an Android device if it's lost or stolen.

Norton Mobile Security

The for-pay version of Norton Mobile Security offers a suite of protective apps.
The malware scan is simple and straightforward. You can scan manually or have Norton scan on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule. You can also scan your SD card -- an option that's turned off by default because it may slow down your system during the scanning operation. On my Droid X, it took 15 seconds to scan normally, and one minute and 56 seconds to scan the SD card as well -- not, in my opinion, a significant difference, and a small price to pay for more complete protection.
The anti-theft lock of the free version is simple to set up. You create a password, and if you lose your phone or if it's stolen, you just send a text message to it from any phone with the word "lock" followed by your password. The phone will then be locked, and can only be unlocked when your password is entered.

For an annual fee of $29.99, you get a variety of additional features, including anti-phishing capabilities and the ability to remotely locate and wipe data from your device, remotely lock your device's SD card (as opposed to just the data in the phone itself) and block SMS messages and phone calls. (Note: In order to get the for-pay version, you have to first download the Lite version from the Android Market and then pay to upgrade.)

Remotely wiping your device, locking the SD card and remotely locating your device in the for-pay version all work like the remote lock version in the free version. You send a text message to the device with a command (for example, "locate" followed by the password) and the app does your command.

If you need to locate your device, a text message with a link is sent back to the phone from which you're sending the text. Click the link to see the location in Google Maps. Keep in mind, though, that the location will only be as precise as your lost phone's location capabilities. So, for example, if you've got GPS turned off, the phone will find its location via triangulation techniques, which is much less precise.

You can also block SMS messages and phone calls from numbers you specify -- which, in a world in which text messaging spam is becoming increasingly common (and annoying) is a very useful feature. The process is quite simple and comes with a robust set of tools. You can enter the numbers you want to block by typing them in manually, selecting them from your contacts or (most useful of all) selecting them from your call log or SMS log. This last option is probably the most satisfactory, because it lets you block spam phone calls and texts right after you receive them.
Norton Mobile Security

Norton Mobile Security can remotely lock your Android device.
When you get a call from your blocked list , it is sent straight to your voicemail. When someone from the blocked list sends a text, it simply doesn't get to you. You can review logs of all blocked calls and SMS messages and -- if you decide you've made a mistake -- you can also easily unblock calls.
The Web protection feature, also in the for-pay version, will block you from phishing sites and sites known to harbor malware. You have the option of overriding the block when you try to visit a site, although that override will last for only 30 minutes. And it works only with the built-in Android browser, not with third-party browsers such as Dolphin.

Is it worth it?
Do you need Norton Mobile Security -- and if so, is it worth upgrading to the $30-per-year version rather than staying with the free Lite version?

Given that malware is increasingly targeting Android, you should have an anti-malware blocker such as Norton Mobile Security on your device. The free remote lock capabilities are also useful.

Note that Symantec isn't the only company offering these types of services. An existing product called Lookout offers a similar set of features. It has a free version that includes anti-malware protection, data backup and a phone finder that makes a siren-like noise. The for-pay version ($2.99 a month or $29.99 a year) adds remote wipe and lock along with privacy and anti-phishing features. Because the free version of Lookout doesn't include the remote lock, between the two, I'd opt for Norton.

But is it worth paying $30 a year for the premium version of Norton? That's a more difficult call. As of yet, phishing hasn't been a serious problem for Android devices, so it's not clear whether that justifies the extra cost. Remote wipe will make you feel more secure, but given that you can remotely lock your phone with the free version, it doesn't add significant extra protection. And remote locate is only as useful as the location capabilities of your phone. The SMS and phone blocker are useful, but that depends on whether you've been targeted with spam (and how many of your callers you're trying to avoid). So it's really up to you as to whether all that adds up to a worthwhile $30 per year.

However, one thing is clear: In an increasingly unsafe world for mobile devices, the free version of Norton Mobile Security is a no-brainer.

Google Music vs. Amazon vs. Apple's iCloud vs. Spotify vs. Rdio vs. ...

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, August 9, 2011

Are you ready to join the cloud music age? Take a look at the top competitors

Network World - The cloud music age is upon us. After years of loading MP3s onto iPods and portable hard drives, there are now several options for streaming that same music to any device with an Internet connection, while gaining access to many more songs we don't already own.

Streaming services like Pandora, Rdio and GrooveShark already existed, of course, but now we have or soon will have Spotify, Google Music, Amazon's Cloud Drive and Apple's iCloud and iTunes Match.

As someone with a 60GB, 12,000-song collection, moving all my music to a cloud service would be difficult, and Internet access isn't widespread enough yet that I'd want to give up offline access. But a more portable music collection is appealing to me, and I therefore have been testing the Spotify, Google, Rdio and Amazon services to determine the best method of making my entire music collection available on any Internet-connected device while giving me access to new songs. iTunes Match isn't yet available, but we know enough about it to draw some conclusions.

In this review I will describe the process I used to upload my music collection to each of these services, and will conclude by spelling out the pros and cons of each one. I won't declare a single winner, because each accomplishes different tasks and I believe each one will satisfy different types of users. Your own listening and purchasing habits as well as the type of mobile device you own will help determine which music service is for you.

For those who prefer to skip the rest of the article, I'll say Google Music and Amazon Cloud Drive are the best services today for uploading all your music to the Web, with the caveat that Google's is available only in beta and Apple's iTunes Match could be better than both when it is released this fall. The Google and Amazon services are excellent for people who own Android devices, but users of iPhones and iPads will want to wait for iTunes Match. For purchasing new music that can be available online or offline, Amazon and iTunes will probably be the winners, but for access to large quantities of streaming music at a flat, monthly rate Spotify and its competitor Rdio get the nod.

In my mind, the ideal online music service will stream your entire collection to any Internet-connected device, provide access to new music and offer easy-to-use applications across PCs, smartphones and tablets. By that measure, the best service available today is Amazon Cloud Drive - but only for people who own Android phones, because Amazon doesn't have an iPhone app. Because no one service does everything perfectly, some users may want to use one to store all their existing music and another to access new songs.

The upload process

Google's Music service is still in beta, but as an attendee of the Google I/O conference in May I gained access. Users can hand out a few invitations, so if you know someone in the beta, be nice to them. Amazon Cloud Drive is available to all, and Amazon is, at least for now, offering unlimited music storage to anyone who purchases a subscription. Plans start at $20, but I was able to get a year's worth of unlimited storage by purchasing a Lady Gaga album for one dollar (no, I am not proud of that purchase).

Uploading to the Google Music beta and Amazon Cloud Drive is relatively easy, but incredibly time-consuming. Both Google and Amazon provide small applications that scan your iTunes library or local folders and let you choose which files to upload. Both were capable of uploading my entire music library, with the exception of a few dozen songs I purchased on iTunes before the iTunes store went DRM-free in 2009. The vast majority of my music collection is from CDs I either bought or borrowed, and songs that originated on CDs uploaded just fine.

The Google upload process stalled once or twice a day, and it always seemed to happen in the middle of the night, so I lost a lot of uploading time. It also stalled shortly after I left on a three-day trip, so a process that should have taken a few days ended up taking a week.

The Amazon tool was a lot more stable and had uploaded nearly 12,000 songs before it stalled even once, and the whole process took about three and a half days. I did the whole upload process on Amazon via Wi-Fi and the Google upload was split between Wi-Fi and a wired Ethernet connection.

With Spotify, there is no obvious way to import your music, but you can import iTunes playlists and Spotify will automatically compare the songs in that playlist to the songs on Spotify's servers and stream the ones that match. By creating an iTunes playlist of my entire 12,000-song collection, I was able to import everything into Spotify very quickly. Since you're not actually uploading any songs, the process takes just a few minutes. Unfortunately, you are limited by what music Spotify has in its own collection. Spotify claimed to match about 6,000 songs, but many are listed despite not actually being available for streaming, bringing the total number down to perhaps 5,000.

Spotify's rival, Rdio, has a much easier process for importing iTunes songs, and a better interface on mobile devices, but has a smaller catalog of music that matched only about 4,000 of my 12,000 songs. iTunes Match, when it becomes available, will be able to stream your whole collection by matching songs already on Apple's servers and letting you upload songs that Apple doesn't have. That's an option not offered by Spotify and Rdio.

The pros and cons of each music service

Amazon Cloud Drive

Pros: As I said earlier, Cloud Drive comes the closest to offering an ideal music service, with the caveat that it's only ideal for someone with an Android phone. Amazon stores all your music for streaming and lets you buy new music for download, and offers an excellent app for Android, which lets you play music from the application or install a home screen widget to play and pause music, and skip to the next song.

Cons: DRM-protected songs I purchased from iTunes could not be be uploaded, and Amazon hasn't gotten any apps approved for the iOS App Store. Amazon did optimize its website for the iPad with great results, but it is basically unusable on the iPhone. Testing Cloud Drive on an Android tablet (a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1) I got some delays while searching my collection for specific songs.

Google Music

Pros: Allows upload of your entire collection (minus DRM-protected songs) and can stream to any device with a Web browser. Naturally, Google offers Music apps for Android devices, and the service is free while it's in beta.

Cons: The service is not available to everyone because it is still in beta, and buggy. Album cover art is often applied to the wrong album, and the upload tool stalled frequently in my usage. Google offers access to a small selection of free songs, but you can't purchase new music. There is no iPhone app, and while the website works on the iPad it's not optimized for the device the way Amazon's Cloud Player is. Just like with the Amazon service, I got the same delays while searching my music on an Android tablet.

Spotify

Pros: With 15 million songs, Spotify is one of the best subscription services for discovering new music. If you purchase a lot of music from iTunes, paying a flat fee of $10 per month to gain unlimited access to music could be a good alternative, as long as you understand that once you stop paying, you lose access to the music. On mobile devices, Spotify gives you a shuffle option that works across your whole collection.

Cons: A funny thing happened while I was using Spotify: I discovered its competitor, Rdio, and ended up liking Rdio better. The problems with Spotify are that it requires a workaround to import your iTunes collection, and the app for the iPhone lacks any way to organize music by artist and album. Perhaps even worse, there is no iPad app so to use Spotify, so on the iPad you use a blown-up version of the iPhone app, which looks terrible. In my usage, the iPhone app stalled frequently on both devices.

Rdio

Pros: Costs the same as Spotify and provides a much better mobile experience. The iPhone app sorts your music by album and artist, an obvious feature but one that Spotify doesn't offer. The app is also better than Spotify's for discovering new music from the artist you're listening to and artists similar to the one you're listening to. The ability to import your entire library from iTunes is easy to identify and use, and it has an app specifically designed for the larger screen of the iPad. The Rdio apps didn't stall on me like Spotify's does.

Cons: Rdio has a smaller music library than Spotify and the mobile apps, for all the good features they offer, lack the ability to shuffle through your entire collection. You could develop an amazing mobile experience by combining the best features of Rdio and Spotify into one. Unfortunately, the services each offer an incomplete app, but Rdio's is better.

iTunes Match and iCloud

Pros: For $25 a year, you can store your entire music collection on Apple's servers. Apple has 18 million songs in the iTunes store, and will match any song in your collection without requiring you to upload them. Apple lets you upload songs iTunes doesn't have, so you should be able to store everything you own and stream it to any Apple device or PC. Like Amazon, iTunes Match and the iCloud storage service let you purchase new music that will remain in your collection permanently.

Cons: It's not available yet so we don't know how well it will work in everyday usage, and it's unlikely Apple will release apps for Android devices. Music purchased from iTunes before 2009 may be incompatible with other services because of DRM restrictions. As I mentioned earlier, I was unable to upload older songs I bought from iTunes to the Amazon and Google clouds. Upgrading older iTunes songs to the non-DRM format costs 30 cents per song.

Conclusion

If you want to store all your music online, have a great mobile experience and be able to access new music on a whim, one service may not be enough. Android owners will do well in storing their music with either Amazon Cloud Drive or Google Music, while iPhone owners will probably be better off with iTunes Match.

Amazon and iTunes let you buy new music, but you'll pay every time you buy a song or album. For infrequent buyers that's no problem. For people who want virtually unlimited access to new music, the Spotify or Rdio subscription services are probably a better deal. For myself, I will likely use iTunes Match to store my collection and am considering an Rdio subscription to access new music.

Google starts tweaking Chrome for OS X Lion

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, August 3, 2011

Yanks full-screen button until it decides how to handle Apple's new feature.

Computerworld - Google yesterday updated Chrome to work better in Apple's Lion, adding support for the operating system's default two-fingered page-swiping gesture.

Version 14.0.835.0 in Chrome's "dev" channel for the Mac now supports Lion's system-wide two-fingered swipe, one of the default gestures in OS X 10.7, which Apple shipped last week.

Google, like Mozilla, maintains multiple Chrome lines and lets users choose which version -- dev, beta or stable -- they want to run. The dev builds are the newest and most unstable.

Previously, Chrome supported a three-fingered swipe to the right or left on a Mac trackpad to move forward or backward, respectively, through previously-viewed pages. Lion, however, seized that gesture and assigned it as the command to move between full-screen applications, another new feature of OS X 10.7.

With the change, Chrome now mimics the behavior of the two-fingered gesture in Safari 5.1, the browser bundled with Lion.

Google's made other Lion-related modifications to Chrome, according to notes on the Chromium bug-tracking database.

As of Tuesday's dev build, for instance, Chrome's scrollbars conform to Apple's guidelines, and disappear when not in use.

But for now, Google developers have decided not to support Lion's full-screen mode. To reduce user confusion, they've removed the button at the upper-right corner of the app window that triggers full-screen.
"What we're going to do right now is remove the full-screen button so we don't advertise a behavior that we don't really implement," said one developer on the bug database last week.

The full-screen button does not appear in the dev build released Tuesday, or in the beta version shipped late last week.

"Long-term, we're going to implement a proper full-screen interface for Lion," the same developer wrote. "In this interface, we'll also experiment with having a collapsible toolbar. Until then, full-screen will operate as it does on Leopard/Snow Leopard."

Existing copies of Chrome's dev build will be updated automatically by Google's silent, in-the-background service. Others may download the dev edition from Google's website.

How to Deal With Shopping for Gaming Computers

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, July 31, 2011

We all have to deal with the dreaded endless computer companies all vying for our hard earn dollars. Each one promising this and that, which the sole intention of drawing you in, well your cash at least. Sooner or later someone is going to get cheated out his/her money, not from trickery or deceit, but from not knowing which sites gives better deals then the others. Honestly, I personally recommend just going to a sites like Newegg and buying the parts to build their own very cheap gaming computers. But I understand that some just don't want to go through all the trouble. So in this article I was suggest two sites that I know of where you can get a decent already built PC for a decent price. Cheaper then some of the bigger computer manufactures.

First up on the list is Ibuypower, a site dedicated to building the PC of your dreams at a reasonable price. At first glance it may look a little complicated, what with all the options it gives you on which PC build you want to start with. It opens up even more with a bunch of different configuration options depending one which model you selected. Once you get down and dirty with it though, it becomes much easier to figure out what you're doing. I haven't personally ordered anything from them yet, but from what friends have told me, they're a very reliable site. You don't have to take my word for it, but you can at least check the site out and see if it has anything of interest.

Our second contestant is Cyberpower PC, another website that prides itself on allowing the consumer to build the PC of his/her choice at a reasonable price. They currently have a back to school sale going, so those who are interested might want to take them up on that offer. Site is sleek and the presentation is rather unique, though I could understand if one found it overwhelming at first glance. Like Ibuypower, this site gives you an array of different stock builds with the ability to customize it at your digression. From what video card or how many, to which processor you want handling your computer, to even how much memory you want. Everything you could every think of when building a PC is at the tip of your fingers. This is a great site for people who don't want to be bothered with building their own PC.

Now you're probably thinking, 'this is all and good, but how do I know which parts I want to buy'. Well I could personally tell you myself, but we'd be here forever and I'm not the best at explaining which graphics card is the best for your needs. Instead, visit sites like Tomshardware to get your PC building needs. The charts on that site is wonderful, especially if you're interested in finding out which video card is power enough for you at the price of your desire. Just find the most relevant chart, look for the game you're mostly interested in and find the video card with the most acceptable abilities at the price range you're looking for. They also have a forum where you can sign up and get detailed answers to your longing questions.

This isn't a detailed by all end all guide to finding the right company to build your PC. This is more of a first step, a way to show you the path you need to follow to get to the correct destination. Again, my preferred method is to buy your parts online from sites like newegg. If you're interested in very cheap gaming computers, that's the way to go It's much cheaper in the end and easy to do once you do a bit of research. However like I said before, I understand there are a few people who do not want to go down that route, instead preferring to get a trusted company to build the PC for them. Hopefully this short guide here can get you started down the correct path.

Logo Creator Software - Should You Actually Use One?

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, July 28, 2011

When it is a situation of spending money, we want to ensure that the money paid is worth every bit! There is nothing wrong if you become demanding when spending money on a certain thing. Imagine! You just bought a food processor but suddenly something went wrong with it. In such a situation, you or anyone would immediately contact the manufacturer so that he can provide with another equipment that is going to work properly. Now, we can completely understand that when we invest our money into something, we expect to get its entire worth in the best possible way. Another aspect that can be understood through such a scenario is that some way or the other we need the help of a professional because such an individual will have all the knowledge of tackling a particular situation. If you have an organization, and you need to use a nicely-designed logo, then it is likely that you will hire a professional for the same. Designing the logo on your own is not a bad idea, but then there are risks involved since you would not have all the knowledge needed to design a logo. Hiring a professional designer for this purpose can cost a lot of money, which is not affordable by all the companies. For small scale firms using a free logo maker remains as an only option! However, should you really get a free download-able logo maker software?

It is important to create a logo design, which is futuristic! Since the trends keep changing, so the design should be such so that it can cater to the needs of future demands. However, this is not possible for a free software to do! It does not work like a human to understand what it should do to create futuristic designs.

A software does not understand which particular color will work at the best for a company.
A professional designer will carry out a thorough survey about what competitors are doing, but a software will be unable to do so!

Do you think you really want to purchase a software now? No one will guarantee you that the software you will use will fetch amazing results. Will a software be a good investment? Will it be able to meet the company requirements to the fullest? Will it be capable in working successfully in the long run? Find your answers to these questions, and then decide whether you should actually be using a software or not!
Harley Willson, an experienced author has been a writing buff for decades and accomplishes his dreams in the field of writing. He has written various articles on logo creator and logo designer software.

The Right Tool For 3D Text Graphics

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Several years ago, in the mid-'90s, in fact, I stumbled upon this Internet thing. I was fascinated, to say the least, and still am. I'm thinkin' if it keeps on like it has been, it might just catch on directly.

I was poking around looking at web-sites and struggling to put up a page on AOL, and one site that I found had some really cool-looking 3D text graphics for headings. Of course I was always on the lookout for techniques and ideas that might make my own page look a little less...well, you know (rhymes with snappy), so I hunted around until I found an email address for the site. I sent them a note, explaining how I admired their site, particularly the great-looking graphics, and asked what software they had used, and was it available to the public, please? I really wanted to be able to do that sort of thing at home, you see.

Well, they sent back a reply; a sad, disappointing reply. It seems that they would decide what text graphics they wanted, and the size and colors, etc., and sent it off to a professional graphics studio. The studio would take their request, render the text into 3D graphics objects, and send them back, all ready to upload to their web-site. Not exactly the answer I was hoping for.

Believe it or not, just a few months later, I came across the web-site of a graphics software company called Xara. They were promoting a product called Xara 3D, a brilliant, and budget-friendly, program that did exactly what I was looking for. You could type any word or phrase from your keyboard, and it would instantly render it in 3D, giving you immediate, real-time control over colors, position, shadow effects, lighting, depth of extrusion (it doesn't take long to learn the terminology), and lots of other details.

Of course, I wasted no time downloading the free trial. As soon as I had installed it, I was blown away by the ease with which I could produce the most extraordinary graphics. And of course I ordered the un-lock code that same night. Looking back, I don't believe I slept for about a week.

I've been using Xara software for well over a decade now, for web-sites, desk-top publishing projects, and Power-Point-style presentations; the graphics can be exported as.jpg and.gif files, and a host of other formats, including animated.gifs and flash animations. At the risk of sounding clichéd, with the software products available from Xara, you are only limited by your own imagination. If graphics is your thing, Xara is the way to go.
For a multitude of graphics needs, from book-covers to numerous web-based projects, David L Henderson relies on Xara software, the core of his graphics toolbox.

The rise and rise (and rise) of Apple's iOS

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, July 24, 2011

Apple's iPhone and iPad are talking over mobile, just as mobile is talking over everything. What does it all mean?

When the first iOS gadget shipped in 2007, The New York Times' David Pogue published a list of questions about the new iPhone. The last question on the list was, "Who on earth would buy this thing?" It's a question nobody would ask today. The phone, and Apple's other mobile devices that run the iOS, are succeeding beyond anyone's predictions. Apple says iOS is currently installed on more than 200 million devices.

Another small thing happened in 2007 that has become a big thing: Apple filed a patent request for the capacitive touch screen used by the iPhone, iPad and, in fact, by nearly all of Apple's competitors in the market. That patent was granted this week.

One possible outcome of the inevitable court cases to come is that competitors may have to pay Apple a licensing fee for every non-Apple smartphone or tablet shipped.

Since its 2007 launch, there has always been a lot of hype around the iPhone far beyond actual market share. The many brands that run the Android OS collectively own more market share both globally and in the U.S. than the iPhone does. And internationally, handsets from giants like Nokia have maintained more sales than those from Apple.

But all this appears to be changing. In the first quarter of this year, Android phone market share declined nearly 3%, while iOS's share rose by more than 12%. Android still has nearly half the smartphone market, and Apple has significantly less than that (about 30%.)

These changing fortunes could represent a temporary blip caused by Apple's availability on Verizon. Or it could be a trend.

Another possible trend is the decline and fall of Nokia. That company's smartphone handset market share dropped from 24% to 16% in one year. Apple retained a 17% share while the overall pie grew significantly.
When the iPhone shipped in 2007, nobody -- and I mean nobody -- predicted that Apple would sell more handsets worldwide than Nokia within four years.

A recent survey measuring Web traffic by various devices found that some 97% of all tablet traffic in the United States comes from iPads. And if you think that's high, the number is 100% in Japan and 99% in the U.K. (The global average is 89%.)

All these market share and traffic numbers mask a stark business reality: Apple makes vastly more money from mobile devices than its competitors do.

Firstly, Apple makes money from handsets, which Google no longer sells. Secondly, Apple makes money from apps -- far more per app than any other platform, and far more apps. For example, last year Google earned about $102 million from apps sales, while Apple raked in $1.7 billion.

Apple's iOS is even more profitable than Microsoft Windows -- 2.3 times higher.

App developers point out that iOS is easier to develop for and monetize than the Google Android platform, and presumably other competitors as well.

The success of iOS devices thus far is nothing compared with what's coming. One report says Apple has ordered two manufacturers to build enough iPhone 5 handsets to sell 15 million in the first month of sales. The new phone is expected to launch in August or September.

According to a study coming from Yankee Group next month, about 40% of all smartphone buyers in Europe said they intend to buy an iPhone the next time they purchase a phone.

A reasonably credible rumor from a blogger in China suggests that China's biggest carrier, China Mobile, will soon announce a deal to sell the iPhone 5.

The current iPhone is available in China only from the No. 2 carrier. Such an announcement would suggest a radical increase in iPhone sales in the world's largest country, which has an incredible 910 million mobile phone subscribers and where the iPhone is already very popular.

Apple currently dominates the tablet market, having sold 25 million iPads to date and possibly more than 14 million more iPads in the third quarter. But one analyst believes Apple will sell a billion of them.
OK, OK. It's clear that Apple's iOS is beyond successful, and threatens to dominate global mobile sales in the foreseeable future.

The reason this is significant is that as Apple comes to dominate mobile computing, mobile computing is increasingly dominating computing in general.

Over the next five years, we'll see more people using phones and tablets as their main computing devices. And I think we can also expect to see current desktop platforms like Mac OS X, Windows and Linux replaced by touch-friendly interfaces like iOS, Android, Metro and so on.

In other words, Apple's iOS is poised to take over mainstream computing.

Facebook Video Calling vs. Google+ Hangout

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, July 19, 2011

The two social networking sevices have come out fighting their main weapon may be video chat.

The Google-Facebook rivalry has intensified in the past several days. Last week, Google announced the limited launch of its new Google+ social network, including a video chat feature called Hangouts. Then, yesterday, Facebook launched its new Video Calling feature, powered by Skype. Clearly, social networking and video chat are now joined at the hip.
Which video chat service is better, and who should use which one? I put both Facebook Video Calling and Google+ Hangout through their paces and found that they both have their pros and cons.
Facebook's video chat is currently more stable, requires fewer system resources, and has higher-quality video and audio. On the other hand, Google+ Hangout is a more fully featured application, clearly designed for group video chat. Those who have made it into Google+ may find it buggy, but in the long run, Hangout could prove to be more useful than Facebook's video feature.

Facebook Video Calling

Facebook's new Video Calling service is powered by Skype; perhaps because of that, it's simple and straightforward to use. You'll first need to download a plug-in by going to www.facebook.com/videocalling, clicking on the Get Started button, then on the Setup button. At that point, you'll download and install a Java plug-in.
You don't, however, necessarily need to head there first. When you receive or try to make your first video call, you'll be prompted to install the plug-in. I found this out because when I tried going to www.facebook.com/videocalling on my MacBook Air, I received an error message. However, when I tried just clicking the video icon in Facebook chat to make a video call, the plug-in installed with no problems.
Once you've got the plug-in installed, making a video call is exceptionally easy. Look at the list of your friends (in the lower right-hand corner of your Facebook page) who are currently available on Facebook chat. Double-click a name, and you'll see there's a new icon at the top of the chat screen -- a small video camera. Click it to send an invitation for that person to participate in a video chat. They'll receive a pop-up notification to a video chat, and if they don't have the plug-in installed, they'll be prompted to install it.
I found the video and sound quality of video calling in Facebook to be quite good -- there was little, if any, video lag, and the sound came through crisp and clear with no delay. This shouldn't be a surprise; Skype has been around for a while, and so it has had time to iron out any video or audio bugs.
Using video chat is simple and straightforward -- just look at the camera and talk. As with most chat apps, the video of the person with whom you're chatting takes up most of the screen, and you see a small thumbnail of your own video in a corner of the screen. You can move the video chat screen around your display and resize it as well. Ready to sign off? Just put your cursor anywhere in the video window, and a small labeled button will invite you to end the session.
One drawback to Facebook's video chat is that it's designed for one-on-one only. If you try to connect to a Facebook user already involved in a video chat, you'll be told that they're not available; you can leave a video message if you like.
All in all, there's nothing earthshaking about the capabilities of the new video chat feature, other than you can now easily chat with your friends, even if you or they don't have Skype. Its importance is its ease of use for Facebook users, not the depth of its feature set.

Google+ Hangout

Google+ Hangout is more fully featured than Facebook Video Calling -- to begin with, it's designed primarily for group chats rather than one-on-one talks -- but, possibly because it's a beta, it's still got a few wrinkles to iron out.
As with Facebook, if you haven't used Hangout before, you'll be prompted to install a plug-in the first time you click on the "Start a hangout" button. Once it's installed, you're ready to go. Creating a Hangout is as simple as pressing the Start a hangout button on the right side of your main "stream" page (in Google+, your stream is the comments and notifications you get from everyone else). A separate video window then opens -- this is your "hangout."
As with the streams in Google+, you need to keep in mind whom you want to invite to your Hangout -- and that depends on which circle(s) you choose. As I described in my recent review, Google+ is based on the idea of circles -- you group friends, family, co-workers and acquaintances into separate circles, so that it's easy to determine what kinds of information you want to share with each of those different groups.
You can create a Hangout for a single circle, multiple circles, or all your circles. Just as with the rest of Google+, the Hangout feature is designed to put you in charge. So if you're viewing all comments and notifications from your Family circle, for example, and you click "Start a hangout," only people in your Family circle will see that you've started a hangout and only they can participate. If you are viewing the stream that shows comments and notifications from all circles, everyone in all of your circles will see that you've started a Hangout and can participate. (You can have a video chat with up to 10 people.)
You can change who you want to invite. After the video window opens, you have a chance to switch which circles will get the notice that there's a Hangout by removing the existing circle(s) and adding others. (So, for example, you can remove the Family circle and replace it with your Work circle instead.) You can also add individual invitations by simply typing in the names of those you want to invite (assuming, of course, that they're members of Google+).
The Hangout pop-out window is larger than the one that appears for Facebook Video Calling. You see a large video of the person to whom you're talking in the main part of the screen. Across the bottom of the screen, there are thumbnails of everyone in the chat, including you.
When more than two people participate in a Hangout, the large image shows whoever is talking -- Hangout chooses which person will be center stage depending on audio feedback. If several people talk at the same time, the video goes back and forth from one to another.
Hangout requires a substantial amount of system resources; on my MacBook Air, it slowed all my other apps considerably and crashed once. One person with whom I was chatting tried to use a netbook, but it continually crashed, and she had to switch to a more powerful system. (She had no trouble using the netbook with Facebook's video chat.)
In addition, during my first session with Hangout, I found both the video and audio to be quite problematic. At times, the video lag was so bad that it looked like a series of still images. Audio would cut in and out rather than be a steady stream. I also experienced an odd audio problem -- at times, a few seconds after I would speak, I would hear my voice coming to me in the background from the person with whom I was chatting.
However, in a subsequent Hangout, in which three people participated, I experienced no problems with the audio. The video was better as well. The thumbnails at the bottom of the screen were crisp, although the main video at the top was coarse and at times pixelated. There were no crashes. It's not clear why the second session went so much more smoothly than the first.
Google+ offers a number of interesting features with Hangout. You can text-chat while you video-chat, and you can also mute your audio and video. And if you're tired of talking to each other, you can watch a video: Hangout also has a YouTube button that gives all participants the ability to watch the same YouTube video. It appears on the main video window, with everyone's thumbnails still below it; once the YouTube video starts, everyone's audio is temporarily muted so they can hear it. If you want to talk with others while you're watching a YouTube video, there is a button that will let you do so (but you have "hold it down" -- as soon as it's released, the mute goes back into effect).
There's also a Settings button that detects your audio and video devices and lets you change them, and helps you troubleshoot potential video and audio problems.

The bottom line

Facebook Video Calling is a useful addition to the world's biggest social networking service, and because of its simplicity and lack of video and audio issues, it will likely be heavily used. Google+ Hangout, on the other hand, is only available to a small number of testers right now and is somewhat buggy. But it's a far more powerful video chat tool and in the long run may be more useful than Facebook's service.

What is google AdSense?

Google AdSense is advertisement provider program made by Google. The word “AdSense” took from word “Advertisement” and “Sense”(money producer), so AdSense is advertisement that can produce money.
Google AdSense is PPC(Pay Per Click) business. It means, we are as publisher will get reward or score if there is someone click the advertisement that we attach. Google will give score per click, every click will assessed with american dollar ($). The click score of every advertisement is not same, it depended the score price for an advertisement. The interval of score average of every advertisement is uncertain, but the minimal score is $0.01/click until untlimited.

What is the power of Google AdSense?

When Google AdSense was born, there are many another PPC business, but what is the superiority of Google AdSense compare with the other one?
1.                   PPC from Google AdSense use dollar for reward per click. The minimal score is $0.01. And if you get 1 click and the score is $0.5/click, so you get $0.5. And if you get 10 click and the score is about $0.5/click, so you get 10x$0.5= $5. And you can get that money just in few second(depended how many people click the advertisement in your blog in a day).
2.                   PPC from Google Adsense is true original PPC. It means, how many people clicked the adertisement in your blog, all of score you got, your all score will calculate. Auditing Your Software

Posted by Unknown

It is interesting to note how rarely computer users are completely aware of everything that is on their machine. There was a time when this was not the case. When hard drives could only store well under a gig's worth of information and memory was in the measured in the thousands of bits instead of the millions, most users could account for the vast majority of their programs and files. However, now that drive space measures in the hundreds of gigs and memory has increased a hundredfold in the past decade+, the act of 'download and forget' has taken hold. Most users could wander through their C drive and find a number of programs and files that they have absolutely no recollection of adding.

Why does it matter? Auditing one's own personal computing device does serve a variety of benefits. Some of these benefits are not as important as they were five or ten years ago, others are actually magnified in importance today. Most of the past benefits were seen in the area of performance issues. For instance, auditing a computer was a necessity in the past in order to clear space for the newer more likely to be used programs. When some high performing programs take up 30-40 megabytes on their own (more if they include large databases), then we are talking about close to 25% of a 1995ish hard drive. It also used to beneficial to clear unused programs in order to improve the overall performance of one's machine. It is no secret that programs acting in the background slow a machine down, and if that machine only has around 250 MB worth of memory, it was pointless to have a program taking up space if it was not going to be used. Computers with less activity occurring in the background were more likely to process faster and have less chance of locking up. Nowadays, these issues are not as major as most computers come with so much hard drive space that only the most frequent users are in danger of overfilling them with programs (music and pictures are still a threat, however).

On the flip side, there are reasons today that make auditing one's own files and programs more important than ever. Malware, spyware, and viruses have found all kinds of ways to imbed themselves onto your machine without being noticed. If a user spends any time on the internet and has not run a virus or malware checker in over a year, odds are pretty good that they have some program lurking in the background that they are not aware of. It is critical that users frequently run scans and look through their software programs themselves. If a user finds a program that they do not remember downloading or cannot seem to fathom a use for, he/she should do some research to determine exactly what it is. If it is harmless, they can keep or discard it. If it is malicious, odds are somebody else has encountered it first and has an idea of how to fix it.
When it comes to optimal and safest computer use, the key is to be aware.

3D Animations - Now You Can Do It Too

Posted by Unknown on Friday, July 8, 2011

Have you ever watched the credits at the end of a blockbuster computer generated film, or at the end of a modern video-game? They just seem to roll on forever, so it is obvious that it takes a good many highly skilled people, and an enormous bankroll to make such a movie or game.

By that same logic, it then stands to reason that there is no way that a single person, without the technical know-how and money, could ever create a 3D animated movie, cartoon or game on their own.

I even tried to look at it from a different angle. For example: What if I was an architect who needed to build a 3D model of a building that I was designing? Would I build a scale model out of wood and glue, at the risk of it being knocked over and destroyed, or would I rather make a 3D computer generated model to present to my clients?

I have heard tales of individuals who made themselves very wealthy, virtually overnight; by single handedly creating video-games or humorous computer generated video clips. How is this possible? The only solution I could come up with is that the answer must lie in the software they used to create their masterpieces.

I then took it upon myself to put my theory to the test. To see if I could find any software programs that could enable a regular person like me to create 3D animations, games, or even just the most humble of 3D computer generated images, without costing me an arm and a leg.

Since the internet is the "Information Super-Highway", it seemed like the logical place to start looking. At first, I searched with little enthusiasm, thinking that I was chasing the proverbial "wild goose".

I found programs that were way too expensive for my modest budget, I found others that were clearly inferior products, disguised as top quality software, and I even found a few websites that appeared so unprofessional and poorly designed, that I didn't care to investigate their wares any further.

Then I found what I was looking for... As I opened the webpage for this product, I was immediately impressed by a video clip near the top of the page, which introduces one to the product. I then scrolled down and found some high praise in the comments posted by the product's users.

This product claims to be able to get even a novice to create high-grade 3D content that is limited only by the user's imagination. A product that doesn't require a huge Hollywood budget, or any prior technical training, since all training and support is provided with the software.

So, if there is anybody out there who would like to do some sort of 3D animation or design, my message to you is this: There are indeed quality products out there that can help you to fulfil your dreams. If you look hard enough, you will find them.

The Benefits of Having a 32GB Micro SDHC

Posted by Unknown on Saturday, July 2, 2011

There are a wide range of portable electronic devices including a lot of the latest smart phones that do not have a considerable amount of internal memory to make use of. This can often bring about a few problems for the user of this type of gadget, because there simply is not enough storage space to file away large sized files like music files and video files. However, the manufacturers of many of these electronic devices have built in capability for micro SD cards, which does make it possible to store large quantities of data in a very small space.

If you find yourself in need of additional memory for your video camera, digital camera, pone, or other electronic device, you might want to look into purchasing a 32GB Micro SDHC. With a small memory card like this, you can easily save all of your favourite videos, music, and photos without worrying about having to store your files on multiple SD cards. This is, of course, unless you have a lot more data than 32 GB to carry around with you. In any case, having a lot of storage for use on the go can make things a lot more convenient for people who like to capture the moment on their camera or smartphone without having to remove pictures or video.

There are a lot of things that you can do with a nice digital camera that can save a lot of photos. If you like to pursue digital photography as a hobby, it can sometimes be frustrating to randomly run out of memory when you still have a few shots you would like to get. This is why it can be very useful to have a few micro SD cards on you so that you always have storage in the event that you run out of memory at an inopportune time.
Try looking into the different options for micro SD cards and you should not have too much trouble finding one that is compatible with your electronic device. Even if the device you are using accepts only regular SD cards, there is still a way to make that micro SD card work so that you can use it in multiple devices. There is a type of SD card that is basically a dummy card, and all you have to do is fit your micro SD card into its slot and then use the dummy card like you would a regular SD card.

There really are a lot of options available to you, and the main point is to have fun with what you have. A good micro SD card with 32 gigabytes of storage may very well be all that you need for your electronic device, whether that device is a phone or digital camera or anything else. You can find a 32GB Micro SDHC at a variety of electronic stores throughout the world, and also at online stores delivering goods to your local area.
